Harmony
is What You Want in Yoga Mats
Harmony
yoga mats by Jade Industries do an exceptional
job of addressing the needs of the eco sauvy yoga practitioner.
It's not quite as environmentally friendly as the eco yoga mat,
but it's a close second. It's a bit more durable, likely due to
chemical additives and a polyester mesh which adds stability. The
first thing you will notice about this mat is a strong natural rubber
odor, but if laid flat outside for a few hours the smell will diminish.
The Harmony mat is priced at $59.95 and comes in
a nice color selection. Best of all these mats are "Made
in the USA".
Natural
- Harmony is made with natural rubber, a renewable resource
tapped from rubber trees, and like the eco yoga mat contains no
PVC. It's perfect for the yogi concerned about the environment.
Yes this mat is biodegradable but the polyester mesh will not decompose
as quickly as the jute in the eco mat.
Performance
- Natural rubber guarantees optimum grip. This mat is composed
of an open cell foam which will absorb your sweat, which means less
slipping in those sweaty yoga classes.
Comfort
- At 3/16" thick this mat provides adequate cushion
and resilience while being strong, and durable. The Harmony mat
won't tear, skid or buckle. I found this mat to be a bit more dense
than the eco
mat, which
is necessary for wood floors.
Care
- Harmony can be hand washed with mild soap and warm water; hang
or lay flat to dry. Sunlight, oils, and high temperature are going
to aid degredation of natural latex.
I
found many people really like the Harmony yoga mat and others just
can't get past the initial smell. It's well worth the effort of
airing it out and washing it upon first getting it.
I recently started using this mat in my practice and I love it.
At times it is almost too "grippy". I wish it were as
environmental as the eco mat, the poly/nylon mesh isn't bidegradable,
but it is made in the USA which tips the scales
in it's favor.
We recommend washing your feet with Jo-Sha
Wipes prior to practice. This will greatly reduce how
often you will need to clean your mat.
Avoid excessive sunlight, oils, and high temperatures.
